C&C Will Steward the Death with Dignity Law

C&C provides free counseling and client services to qualified patients seeking to use Washington’s death-with-dignity law.

Our volunteers can help patients:

  • Consider all end-of-life options.
  • Prepare advance directives.
  • Understand hospice and locate a provider.
  • Talk to their families and healthcare providers about dying.
  • Locate physicians who support a patient’s choice to use the law.
  • Locate pharmacists who support a patient’s right to receive life-ending medication.

C&C’s volunteers advocate excellent end-of-life care, provide information about the entire range of end-of-life options, and support patients and families through the Death With Dignity Law process.  Volunteers are available across Washington State.

We also provide expert advice about the law to doctors, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers.

  Patients should consider talking to their doctor now about their end of life wishes and we strongly advise that you have this conversation face to face with your doctor. This Letter to My Physician can be used to help you gather your thoughts to have this conversation.  
       
  Mission Statement: Compassion & Choices of Washington (C&C) provides advocacy, counseling, and emotional support to qualified individuals who desire a peaceful, humane death. Through education, advance planning, consultation with caregivers, case management services, and patient advocacy and empowerment, C&C upholds patients' rights to excellent end-of-life care, effective pain and symptom management, and, for terminally ill, competent adults, aid in dying to avoid intolerable suffering. C&C is the steward of the Washington Death with Dignity Act.
